Nikita Chauhan

Nikita Chauhan, yoga teacher and yoga therapist at Pratimoksha Dubai

Yoga teacher, yoga therapist and TTC educator

Psychology came first for Nikita Chauhan, and yoga second. The two have stayed close ever since. A posture tells a teacher what the body is doing; the breath, the face and the pace of a student tell her the rest.

She earned a Master’s in Yoga (Yoga Acharya) at Shri Jairam Yoga School in Rishikesh after a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Garhwal University, taught for a year and a half, and joined Pratimoksha’s full-time team in Dubai in August 2023.

Many classes, one kind of attention

Nikita teaches across a wide range of practice at the studio:

  • Hatha yoga, the classical foundation for most of what Pratimoksha teaches
  • Ashtanga yoga, for students who want a set sequence and a steady rhythm
  • Prop yoga, using blocks, straps and bolsters so the pose fits the body
  • Therapeutic yoga and personalized practices
  • Pranayama and meditation
  • Prenatal and postnatal yoga, plus support for clients before and after surgery

Her Hatha classes and prop yoga sessions give newer students a steady place to start, while the therapeutic work is shaped entirely around the individual. Across all of it, her attention stays on alignment, posture and movement awareness, and on whether a student is working with the body or against it.

She sees postures as where yoga starts. Awareness of body, breath and mind is where it leads, and she keeps her classes safe and adaptable enough that each person can progress at a pace their body agrees with.

Yoga at work

Nikita also leads corporate yoga and workplace wellness sessions for companies in Dubai. Office groups bring mixed ages, fitness levels and experience, so she shapes each session to work for everyone in the room, usually with an emphasis on posture and breath after long hours at a desk.

Guiding the next teachers

In Pratimoksha’s teacher training courses, Nikita takes trainees through both the practical and theoretical sides of yoga: safe alignment, anatomy, breathing techniques, and how practice applies in different settings. The work reflects Lalitha Viswanath’s insistence on ethical, well-grounded teaching, the standard the studio’s training has always held to.

Rishikesh, the camera and the competition floor

Before Dubai, Nikita attended immersive workshops at Tarang Yoga and Jungle Lore in Rishikesh, and she was named 2nd runner-up in an intercollege yoga competition organized by Patanjali Yoga Samiti.

She also works behind the camera. Nikita plans, shoots and edits yoga content for the studio’s Instagram, including reels, so people in Dubai who follow Pratimoksha online often see its teaching through her lens.

Nikita teaches at the Oud Metha studio, in homes and in offices across Dubai. A trial session is the simplest way to see her teaching up close before committing to anything.
